Coastal Voices Men’s Choir presents “Songs of Sea and Shore, Sensibility and Satire” at First United Church, 7964 Highway 7 in Musquodoboit Harbour, on Sunday June 5th at 7:00 p.m.
Please join us for an evening of music presented by Coastal Voices Men’s Choir with guest soloist Rowan Wilson-Henkelman. The program will feature music of many styles from sea shanties to contemporary. It includes folk music, Mozart, a whaling tune, jazz, Gilbert & Sullivan, a haunting rendition of a Robert Frost poem, and more, and capped with some rousing and inspiring songs. The Choir will present ” Rise Again” with Rowan as soloist.
The satirical segment of the concert is filled by the glorious piece “I am so proud” from Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado”, arranged for the Choir by John Plant. The Mikado operetta pokes fun at 19th century British politics and institutions. It opened in 1885. Gilbert’s lines such as “My brain it teems with endless schemes both good and new …” and “Now every man to aid his clan must plot and plan as best he can”, might irk overly sensitive politicians as well today as they did 130 years ago!
Tickets $12 at the door, or in advance from Harbour Breezes Daylilies, 10099 Highway #7, or by contacting Tony Hillman at 902 237 9439.
Please mark your calendars. We look forward to seeing you there.
